Since Adolfo had left since giving us our test from Tuesday, we have had a sub, Montse. Today, Montse was being cool and gave us all of Adolfo’s class time to study for Ma. Luisa’s test. To tell you the truth, I was up to my ears learning about imperfect subjunctive and whatnot. I was close to throwing up. :P
So, we took Ma. Luisa’s test. It wasn’t easy. It was actually challenging. I wasn’t worried though. As usual, I was the last to finish. I’m always the last to leave here. I don’t know why. I just enjoy not being in a hurry. I chatted with Ma. Luisa like I always do with everyone. We actually talked about deep and profound stuff in Spanish so I was quite proud of myself. She’s a pretty cool teacher and I always make her laugh. LOL She won’t continue to be our prof for the next course since she has July off for vacation and she´s going to Japan coz her husband is Japanese. She gave me besos and a tight hug and wished me luck. I asked for her address and told her I’d write when I’m back in the States. I was too shy to take a picture with her. Haha! Well, anyway, whatever I’m not fond of goodbyes.
Anyway, after that I went home for lunch. Geter, a student from Atlanta who plays tennis (who I happened to meet while accompanying Shannon to the University Sports Complex) called. We agreed to play tennis and meet at the courts at 3:00pm. I ate a huge lunch very quickly and walked over to Campos Universitario. You would not believe how difficult it is to get to play tennis here. Since he was leaving back for the States the next day, we had to play today.
First off, you need to have reserved a court to be able to play. Second, the office closes at 1:30pm so we couldn’t get it beforehand because we have classes. Third, the other office where we could also make a reservation was also closed that day. It said they were all at the swimming pool. I’ll describe this for you. The Campos Universitario is a huge place. Once you enter through the gates, you see a looooooooooooooooong road between two shaded walkways. First come the basketball courts by the gates, then the superhuge swimming pool, then a set of cement soccer “courts,” the basketball gymnasium, then the tennis courts at the end of the road. It was such a pain to have walked all the way down to the tennis courts only to find out we have to walk back to the swimming pool to make the reservation. Anyway, after 45 minutes and 6.50 euros, we got a court for an hour.
I don’t know if it was the heat, my big lunch, my being recently sick, my simply being out of shape, or all of the above but I’m telling you I was dying out there. I swear I have never felt that tired in my entire life. My arms and legs felt like they were going to fall of my torso. Surprisingly, my strokes were still good and I even had one perfect point against Geter. I hit a crosscourt forehand, came in for a short ball which I ripped crosscourt, came up to the net and finished the point off with an overhead. I was quite proud. Then, I died. LOL. You know in those videogames where you have your life or energy in a bar? Well, mine was terribly in the reds. For every 5 minutes I played, I sat down to rest for 10 minutes. It was ridiculous. And it was ridiculously hot too. Anyway, I finally gave up and left. I had to meet the other girls at CCA2 to book our flights to Barcelona. The walk was excruciatingly long. I had to walk across the city for 35 minutes. Anyway, I made it and we’re going to Barcelona on July 11 -13.
After CCA2, we all agreed to rendezvous at Plaza Einstein at 8:00pm to watch the Spain vs Russia Semifinal game. Without a doubt and with much fervor, Spain won 3-0. The aftermath was an overwhelming phenomenon. All I can say is I’m glad to be here while Spain is dominating the Eurocup 2008 and that I’m very sad that I won’t be here in Spain to take in the full Spanish experience when Spain beats Germany in the finals on Sunday.
